Veteran actor and screenwriter Shiv Subrahmanyam dies

Veteran actor and screenwriter Shiv Subrahmanyam has died, director Hansal Mehta wrote on Twitter on Monday. The cause of his death was not yet known.

“With deep and heartfelt grief, we wish to inform you of the passing of one of the most worthy and noble souls to have inhabited the human form – our dearest Shiv Subrahmanyam,” read one. Remark, which Mehta shared on Twitter. “Incredibly talented, he was much loved and revered personally and professionally.”

Subrahmanyam was last seen in the film Meenakshi Sundareshwar on the Netflix streaming platform, in which he plays the grandfather of actor Sanya Malhotra.

Subrahmanyam is survived by his wife Divya Jagdale, who is also an actress and writer. The couple lost their teenage son Jahaan to a brain tumor two months ago, according to The Indian Express.

He started his career in the film industry as a screenwriter in Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit-starrer Parinda (1989), reported PTI.

His work as a writer is also noticed in several other productions, including 1942: A Love Story, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin, Arjun Pandit, Chameli, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Teen Patti.

His screen appearances include starring Alia Bhatt 2 States, Hichki, Stanley ka Dabba and Kamineyamong others.

Several film personalities paid tribute to the actor and expressed their sorrow at his death.
